GK Update 14 June 2015

 1. Union government has launched India Nuclear Insurance Pool(INIP)of 1500 crore rupees. India is the 27th country to do so in the world. This is set up by General Insurance Corporation and 11 other insurance providers.
2. Ex- union Minister Sheila Kaul passed away in New Delhi. She was sister in law of Jawaharlal Nehru. She was elected to the member of Parliament for five times.
3. Bibek Debroy has submitted the recommendations for restructuring of the Indian Railways to the Ministry of Railways. They are:
  • Establishment of Railway Regulatory Authority of India with an independent budget and Ministry.
  • Tariffs to be decided by RRAI.
  • Railway budget should be replaced with gross budgetary support.
  • No privatisation in Railways but allowance for Railway projects.
  • Government should fund the Government Railway Police.

4. China has launched a freight train for Europe by connecting Hamburg and Harbin. It is a 9820m long route to sell Chinese products in Europe.
5. Minister of State External Affairs Gen. VK Singh inaugurates first Indo-China Yoga college at Yunnan Minzu University, China.
6. Migrant Resource Centre comes up at Chennai established by Overseas Affairs Ministry and Tamil Nadu Government.
7. US has become the largest producer of oil surpassing Saudi Arabia by producing 11.6 million barrels.
8. Dr Bimal Ray has been removed from the post of Director of Indian Statistical Institute on the charges of indiscipline.
