GK Update 11 May 2015

1. Land Acquisition Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha today by Rural Development Minister Chaudhry Birender Singh. However the bill faced stiff opposition from the opposition parties lie Congress, TMC, BJD, NCP and RSP. Members of NCP and TMC staged a walk out.
2. The Karnataka High Court has acquitted J.Jayalalitha in corruption charges thereby clearing way for her return to the office. 
3. Noted Banker K.V.Kamath has been appointed as the head of BRICS Bank. This was revealed by Rajiv Mehershi.


4. China has surpassed USA in the top crude buyer despite having a slow economy. It is also the largest energy consumer.
5. Maharastra government and SIDBI have set up a 200 crore fund to facilitate easy funding for MSME's. The state will give 75 crores while rest will be given by the banks.
6. In an unfortunate incident, Delhi constable Satish Chand has been dismissed after he allegedly hit a woman with a brick after she denied to give bribe.
7. Today is National Technology Day which emphasizes on the importance of science in day-to-day life and motivates students to adopt science as a career option.
8. Andy Murray has registered his first victory over Rafael Nadal in the final of the Madrid Master's tennis tournament. By this defeat, Nadal has dropped to number seven in the ATP rankings which is his lowest in the past 10 years.
9. Nico Rosberg has won the Spanish Grand Prix beating his teammate Lewis Hamilton.
