GK Update 13 May 2015

1. The Parliament today gave its approval to the Black Money and Imposition of Tax Bill, 2015. The bill helps in dealing with undisclosed foreign income and assets besides imposition of Tax on such income and assets held outside the country. 
2. President Pranab Mukherjee appointed six governors in six states. They are:
  • Tathagata Roy: Governor of Tripura
  • Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma : Governor of Mizoram
  • Dr Syed Ahmed: Governor of Manipur
  • J P Rajkhowa: Governor of Arunanchal Pradesh
  • Droupadi Murmu: Governor of Jharkhand
    V Shanmuganthan
  • V Shanmuganthan: Governor of Meghalaya
3. Cabinet today cleared the urea policy to cut down subsidy bill by 4800 crore rupees annually and increase domestic production by 2 million tonnes.
4. Centre approved the 'Namami Gange' project which emphasizes on cleaning of Ganga river. It is planned to have a budget of 20000 crores within 5 years.

5. Achal Kumar Jyoti, a 1975 batch IAS and former Chief Secretary of Gujarat has taken charge as the new Election Commissioner.
6. Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena met with a delegation of fishermen and ordered release of 37 fishermen. He emphasized on resolving the matter by dialogues.
7. The Union Cabinet today cleared the 5% disinvestment in NTPC and 10% in Indian Oil which may fetch it 13000 crore rupees.
8. BRICS Cup Football Tournament is to be held in India for the first time.
