GK Update 21 May 2015

1. National Commission for Women is all set to be restructured to get more powers to deal with women issues more effectively. This was revealed by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi. She also said that hew ministry is doing all possible measure for betterment of women and children.
2. In an attempt to use highways for emergency landing, a Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft today successfully landed on the Yamuna Expressway. IAF has plans to use highways for such purpose in the future.

3. Atleast 50 people have been killed due to scorching heat in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana region. Nizamabad area recorded at maximum 47 degrees and the high temperature will be for another two to three days.
4. India's growth rate is set to surpass China with GDP set to increase by 7.7%. This was said by a UN report.
5. Five world's largest banks JPMorgan, Citigroup, Barclays, RBS, UBS are to pay fines totaling 5.7 billion dollar for manipulating the foreign exchange market. Barclays was fined the most, 2.4 billion dollar, as it did not join other banks in November to settle investigations by UK, US and Swiss regulators.
6. Automaker Mahindra and Mahindra acquired 33% of  farm machinary subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for $25 million.
7. National Payments Corp of India (NPCI), said it had received the Reserve Bank of India's approval for a tie up with Chinese government-supported payment card network China UnionPay. 
8. SBI today has tied up with PayPal to enable its customers buy products from overseas. 
9. Mercedes today launched S600 Guard edition car priced at Rs 8.9 crores.
10. Saina Nehwal regained her top spot in the World Badminton rankings.
